Fibromyalgia symptoms can vary from person to person and one of the main symptoms is pain, this is normally widespread pain over your whole body which can be variable in intensity and can be felt as an ache, burning feeling or sharp stabbing pains. You may also be very sensitive to pain and a slight knock can be very painful. Aching and stiffness can also be experienced especially after sitting or lying still for long periods and particularly first thing in the morning. Tiredness or fatigue is also a classic symptom this is because fibromyalgia affects your sleeping and doesn't allow you to get the proper refreshing sleep, consequently you wake in the morning still feeling tired. Pain during the night can also cause sleep problems and stress leading to a vicious circle of pain and tiredness. This can lead to symptoms of depression and mood changes. Some people feel sensitive to light and temperature. Some lack concentration, motivation, have trouble remembering things and confused speech (often called fibro fog). Other symptoms include, headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, fascial pain and depression. These symptoms can come get worse at times, this is referred to as a "flare", a flare can be brought on by over-exertion, different weather conditions or stress, they can also disappear completely for long periods only to return again. As you can see there are many symptoms to Fibromyalgia and it is important to get a proper diagnosis from your doctor rather than rely on your own assumptions based on having similar symptoms. If you suffer from any of these symptoms for longer than 3 months you will need to see a doctor. | ||||
